18 books down, 6 to go. Here is what we thought about our October novels.
17. The Grownup, by Gillian Flynn
Falynn’s Vote: 3/5 Amber’s Vote: 3/5
Odd. That is the best way to sum up this very short book. Some of its crude innuendos caught me right off the bat; however, things moved very fast and ended very fast. Although the story was interesting and the characters were intriguing, you barely had a chance to know who was who and what was what before it ended.
In summary: I had such high expectations of Gillian Flynn coming from reading Gone Girl last year, I suppose my expectation was too specific. I wish this book was (at least) three times this length, with more story.
18. After You, by Jojo Moyes
Amber’s Vote: 3.5/5 Falynn’s Vote: 4/5
This was the sequel to the extremely popular novel ‘Me Before You’ and I had very high expectations. This book did not disappoint, however, it just can’t be the book it’s predecessor was. That being said, I still cried, laughed and loved every page. I would encourage you to read both of these books. For fear of giving away the outcome of the first book I will keep my review short.
In summary: I would encourage you to read both of these books. As a series, I give them a 5/5! The perfect addition to your holiday reading list.
