So you’re headed to the Big Apple! If you’ve never been, the idea of planning out a vacation can seem daunting. Have no fear! I am going to break down my top ten favorite places to visit in and around Manhattan. I had to whittle this list down from 1000 so this is more of a “first time in NYC” type of deal. If you ever want more a more in-depth list, feel free to email me or leave a comment!
Walk The Highline and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Central Park. If you have time, grab a coffee and wander around the park. Check out the zoo, carriage rides and The Boathouse if you’re in the mood for dining with a view.
Yankee Stadium. Go see a baseball game here if you get a chance. Even if you aren’t a big fan, it’s an experience of a lifetime.
Chelsea Market. This market has amazing shopping and vendors you won’t find anywhere else. Make sure to check out Pamela Barsky’s booth and stock up on her bags as they make excellent gifts! There are several great restaurants located in the market so plan to spend an afternoon here.
Go to Brooklyn. Bedford Ave alone has plenty of shopping and great restaurants to keep you busy.
Madison Square Garden. You can check out a Rangers or a Knicks game, do the All-Access Tour (which is amazing!), or check out one of MSG’s many concerts!
The MET (and MoMA… and all the amazing museums!!)
 SOHO. One word: shopping.
Broadway. See a show! This is an ABSOLUTE must when you’re in New York. I have seen six Broadway musicals and my top two recommendations would be Wicked and The Lion King.
Eat. For the love of all that is tasty, do not eat at chain restaurants when you’re in NYC. There is a mouth-watering eatery around every corner so I recommend that you wander and explore. If you are the planner type, make use of Yelp. If you are willing to take my word for it, here are Mark and my top 5 Big Apple eateries:
- Eataly (you need to get a prime rib sandwich with sea salt and olive oil!)
- The Meatball Shop (this is Mark’s favorite)
- Beauty & Essex (it is hidden in the back of a pawn shop… how cool is that?!)
- Quality Italian (you need to order the chicken parmesan which is served like a pizza is definitely worth ordering and sharing with the whole table!
- Momofuku Milk Bar (Do yourself a favor and order the cereal milk ice cream. Yes, it’s ice cream that tastes like your milk after a bowl of cereal!)
When it comes to getting around the city, cabs can be pricey. The subway system is amazing and affordable. If you are ever unsure about where to go, just ask!
