Your guide to everything cool and not so cool for June!
Your same old boring workout playlist! When summer comes around, I always feel the need to change up my playlist. This is my absolute favorite way to boost my mood and keep my workouts on point. (If you live in America, do yourself a huge favor and download Spotify!) Here’s what I’m listening to these days:
- Hey Mama by David Guetta (ft. Nicki Manaj, Bebe Rexha, Afrojack)
- Bad Blood by Taylor Swift
- Time of Our Lives by Pitbull
- The Nights by Avicii
- Verge by Owl City
- Geronimo by Sheppard
- Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon
- Kick the Dust Up by Luke Bryan
- Lost Tonight by Air Dubai
- Talking Body by Tove Lo
- This Is How We Do by Katy Perry
- FALLINLOVE2NITE by Prince
Champagne. That is all.
But seriously, I would call myself obsessed. What’s not to love about a chilled glass of bubbly on a hot summer day?? It’s not just that I recently became a member of my favorite club of all time (Club Chandon), I have been on the champagne train for a while now.
However, a more recent discovery, champagne makes for excellent summer cocktails! Last summer, my husband began making me and my girlfriends French 75‘s, which is a delicious combo of gin, champagne and lemon. This summer, we’re looking to step up our mixologist game and add a few new champagne cocktails to our repertoire.
Chandon Brut Mojito – yes… you read that right. Now go try it.
Southern Peach Punch – a little bourbon and a lot of bubbly. Perfect for BBQ’s and days by the pool.
Cape Cod Fizz – vodka cranberry meets rosè. Sign me up.
As you can see, pretty much any drink can be improved upon with the addition of sparkling wine. Follow one of these recipes, or get creative and if you stumble across a winner, please share!
What’s going ON
Free Press Summer Fest – June 6 & 7th
For me personally, what’s going on is Mark, Ella and I are taking a road trip to Florida! It just so happens that this little thing called The Stanley Cup Finals are being held in Tampa and we decided to make the trip. We will be stopping in New Orleans, LA, Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL and finally Clearwater, FL and Tampa. I am excited to check Alabama off my states to visit (only 17 left!!!). I will be posting plenty of photos via Instagram and keeping a list of all the must-see sights and eats.
Side note, this will bring Ella’s total of states visited to 17 (and two countries, 1 province). That’s one well travelled pup!
Summer frizz! I for one have curly hair, which can be entirely unmanageable in the summer if there is any ounce of humidity. Thank goodness the “un-done” look is in. That being said, there are some quick solutions to get rid of the frizz.
Oil! I personally use a light version of the popular Moroccan Oil, mainly because most oils tend to weigh my fine hair down. But my favorite product isn’t exactly an oil, it’s It’s a 10 Leave-in Kreatin Plus. I use this if I am just running out of the house with wet hair or fully styling it, either way this product has so many added benefits along with help fighting the ultimate frizz and dryness. A little bit goes a long way.
Kevin Murphy Shimmer Shine Mist! If I am styling or not, a couple spritz of this on dry hair and a quick brush, my hair looks shiny and fresh! Unlike some oils or shimmer mists, this leaves no oily residue or greasy look, and the smell is delicious!
Bumble Bumble City Swept! This is a finishing spray that adds texture with a lightweight hold. It fixes frizz and gives your hair an intentional un-done look. Curly or straight, I love this!
There are lots of other solutions on the market to help with your fight against frizz. If you find a gem, share it with us; we’d love to try new products!
Kimonos! This is my new summer go-to rather than my over-worn blazer collection. Modern kimonos are great for dressing up or down, adding flare to a tired look.

Not only are kimonos a bright and fun way to add pattern and color to an outfit, but they are also typically more accommodating for the warm weather if your are looking for something light to wear in the summer. Most of my kimonos are either sheer or a light silk material; however, I have a couple long cardigans for winter that could be kimono-esque…
What’s going ON
I’ve got two unrelated “what’s going ON” goodies! But I am just SO excited about both, I couldn’t just pick one!
First: The time has finally come, with years of anticipation and city preparation, FIFA Women’s World Cup is in Edmonton this weekend! I grew up playing soccer and loving the sport my whole life, so this is a huge event for Edmonton to be hosting! This is so great for not only the growth of women’s soccer in Canada, but also for all the little ones looking up to these players.
It all starts this Saturday! Starting with the opening ceremonies, followed by Canada’s own women’s team vs. China. Check out the website for more event details and schedule!
Second: It’s that time of year when the summer Farmer’s Markets start popping up all over the city! Being that I reside in St. Albert, my most favorite market is obviously the massive St. Albert Farmer’s Market. I look forward to the opening weekend all winter!
Not only does it have tradition running over 30 years, but it is Western Canada’s largest outdoor market! Host to vendors featuring food, clothing, DIY, flowers, and much more!
The opening weekend is Saturday, June 13th from 10am – 3pm! You can guarantee that I will be there enjoying the sun and all the goodies the market has to offer.
